I love health and beauty tips and hacks; whatever keeps me looking young and saves me money on overly expensive beauty care products. In fact, I’ve probably read too many of them, and by now my skin is probably wondering why I’m lathering coffee and oatmeal masks onto my face. But these tips can seriously help you with skin health, as well as saving time and money on hair and makeup.
As females, there’s a lot to keep track of, but if there are beauty hacks to make things easier, then I’m all for it. Give me those crazy scrubs and weird eyeliner tricks, I need all the help I can get.
Green Tea Bags for Puffiness: When I first saw my sister do this, I’m pretty sure I gave her a weird look. But after learning about how putting green tea bags just under (or on) your eyes can get rid of puffiness and dark circles, I was all about it (this probably ranks high in my favorite health and beauty tips)
Eye Shadow for Thicker Hair: This is a simple and quick trick if you want to give the appearance of having thicker hair. Just take a small to medium sized brush, pick an eyeshadow that is very close to your own hair color, and then apply at the roots of where your hair parts. It’s as easy as that!
The Concealer Triangle: A lot of the time, us women apply concealer in line with our dark circles. But this is the worst way to reduce the appearance of them. What you need to do instead is create a “V” (or inverted triangle) shape, and blend into your skin to get a more well rested and brighter look!
Nails in Cold Water: This was one of the first health and beauty tips I ever learned. When I was a kid, my sister (the same one with the tea bags) did my nails and taught me this hack. After coating your nails with polish, dip them into a pre-prepared bowl of ice water, and let them set for about a minute.
Apply Glue Before Nail Polish: Glue is a cheaper alternative to products that do the exact same thing. All you have to do is apply some glue around your nails (on your skin), let it dry, and then apply the nail polish. Reason for this? Well when you’re finished painting your nails, you can easily peel off the glue and no paint will have gotten on your skin.
Twisting for Split Ends: This is an awesome hack if you have hair that gets split ends easily (like mine). Just take a section of your hair, half the section, then twist it around each other, and if there are any ends sticking out, clip them.
Lipstick Hack: A lot of brands promise you a 24 hour lasting period, but we all know they’re liars. Thankfully though, there’s a hack for that (surprise surprise). Once you’ve finished applying your lipstick, take a tissue, and lightly dust translucent powder over the tissue. (I love this powder).
Eyeline with Lighter: This is probably one of the crazier health and beauty tips. Turns out lighters aren’t just for lighting cigarettes. You can use them to heat up a pencil eyeliner and it will quickly become a darker more intense color that will make your eyes pop!
I seriously appreciate Buzzfeed for this one. These products definitely up my beauty hack game. And it’s true; I really do wish I had known about these sooner!
NYX Be Gone Lip Color Remover: You know how after you remove your lipstick, they’re stained with the color? Well this stuff takes care of it. Just wipe the lip color remover off with a tissue and you’re done.
Shiseido Eye Smoother: Want to get rid of bags, dark circles, and laughing lines? Then apply these just under your eyes (or even around your mouth area to reduce laughing lines). This is such a great product that reduces signs of aging!
Berrisom Peel-Off Lip Stain: Alright so I know I just talked about a lip stain remover, but this stuff is awesome! It goes on like a jelly lip gloss, and then once it’s done drying, you peal it off and you have an awesome lip color for about 12 hours (this is great since I hate getting lipstick or gloss on my teeth).
When I was a young teenager, I didn’t have the best skin hygiene. I’d lather on makeup (forget about washing it off), and finish it all off with brushes that hadn’t been washed in who knows how long. But if I had known about this DIY project, I probably would have done it (especially since it’s so easy).
1 cup warm water
1 tbs. dish soap
2 tbps. white vinegar
- Set up your brushes and ingredients near running water.
- Mix the soap, vinegar, and warm water in a bowl and stir.
- Then take your brush and move it around in the mixture (or soak if it’s very dirty for a little bit).
- Once it’s clean, hold it under warm running water (move bristles to get out more makeup if needed), to finish off the cleaning process.
- Reshape the brush bristles so they dry in their original shape.
- Do this with each individual brush. Pretty simple right?
I love face masks. It’s like I can feel the nutrients seeping into my pores as I let it sit on my skin. Ok so that sounds a little weird (minus a little). But what I love even more are simple masks, the two ingredient kinds that don’t cost me much time and money.
Turmeric and Coconut Oil: Now I think these two ingredients are awesome! Turmeric and coconut oil help to fight against aging, moisturize, and give you a great glow. Awesome ingredients for healthy skin. You can get them here and here!
Honey and Lemon: Honey and lemon are great for killing bacteria (goodbye acne), and lightening your skin. So if you have old acne scars, this is the stuff you need to slather on your skin.
Honey and Coffee: If you want to tighten your skin, then this is the mask to make . Both work in unison to give you firmer, more youthful, skin. An awesome anti-aging duo (not to mention coffee’s antioxidants fight free radicals (the stuff that makes you age).
Makeup is awesome, but expensive makeup? Not so great.. at least for my wallet. That’s why when I saw this Buzzfeed post on cheaper alternatives (that were basically the same) to expensive brand products, I started taking notes.
Maybelline Line Stiletto Liquid Liner: I love liquid eyeliner (how else could I get that dramatic of a black?), and when I found out that this Maybelline brand was $28 cheaper than the YSL version, I had to get it.
NYX Matte lipstick: I like shiny lips, but sometimes I really like a matte finish to my look. That’s why I was happy to find that the NYX brand was $11 cheaper than the MAC brand (and just as good).
Freeman Facial Polishing Mask: Looking for a great face mask with awesome ingredients? Then try this one with charcoal (great for pulling out impurities from your pores) and black sugar. You’ll save $13 dollars if you get it instead of Origins’ version of the mask.
L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara: This mascara is $18 cheaper than Diorshow. You can still get amazing long and thick lashes for more than half the price.
Out of the many health and beauty tips, this one is pretty cool (and simple!). All you have to do is apply the first layer of mascara, then brush, dab on (with a cotton swab), or dip your mascara brush into some loose powder, apply to your lashes, and then finish off with the final layer of mascara!
Morning is such an important time to take care of your looks. And that’s why I created a list of beauty and health tips for your morning hygiene habits! Here are a few of them.
What You Should Eat and Drink for Healthier Skin: A couple examples from this post are aloe juice, chia seeds, and avocados. Aloe juice has amazing vitamins that gives your skin a healthy glow and fights aging. But chia seeds and avocados have plenty of fatty acids and omegas in them that keep your skin moist and supple. Great for keeping you looking young!
Exfoliating Benefits and Easy Scrubs You Can Make: When you exfoliate, the dead skin cells and dirt are removed from your skin and your pores are able to take in all of the nutrients and benefits that the scrub ingredients have to offer. A simple one (which was the first scrub I ever made) to do is an olive oil and sugar scrub. They’re both ingredients that many people already have and it’s just a 1:2 ratio. So ½ cup of sugar and 1 cup of oil (you can half or double that amount).
Invest in Just One Oil (and which ones are great for you): Essential oils are all the rage and it seems like everyone is selling them now. But you don’t need all of them. You just need to find one that works for your skin type (or any skin type really). Oils like Jojoba, Vitamin E, Tea Tree, and Coconut Oil all have healing and moisturizing benefits for your skin.
Nighttime is also very important for taking care of your health and beauty. It determines how you’ll feel and look the next day. So looking after yourself in this way can reap many benefits.
What You Should Drink at Night: Turmeric and dandelion tea are two teas you need to get (ok you don’t need to, but they’re definitely worth it). Turmeric has antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties which are great for acne. It also has plenty of antioxidants which are great for fighting aging. You can get turmeric tea here.
And Dandelion tea detoxes your system which helps prevent hormonal acne. Not to mention it’s also packed with vitamins to help fight aging and benefit your health. You can get dandelion tea here.
Nighttime Go-To: If you create a nighttime go-to scrub, you’re going to be ready to cleanse your face even when you’re dead tired. No sense in grabbing the ingredients and making it before bed (if you’re exhausted enough, you probably won’t do it anyways). Just have it ready to go so you can wake up with healthy and clear skin the next day.
Sleep on Your back and Use an Extra Pillow: When you sleep on your side, your face gets pressed up from the pillow and creates creases around the eyes and mouth. These creases will eventually become wrinkles. This is why you want to train yourself to sleep on your back.
When you use an extra pillow, you elevate your head and help all the extra fluids that cause dark circles and puffiness to leave your face. Now this is one of my favorite health and beauty tips that I like to follow. I alway wake up looking more fresh and ready for the day.
There are days that cause stress… and then there are those days. But thankfully, there are things we can do to prevent or relieve stress, even on the worst of days.
Eat Dark Chocolate and Berries: Now these are both foods that help fight against stress. Dark chocolate has antioxidants that relieves blood pressure and releases endorphins (the happy hormone). Now certain berries like blueberries also have antioxidants which help fight off stress. Both are easy to eat as a snack (and taste good), so there’s no sacrifice there.
Legs Up the Wall: Whether you like yoga or not, this position will be a great way to relieve stress. All you have to do is lay on your back and put your legs straight up on the wall. This helps your heart to rest (because it has to pump less), and reduces your heart rate. Your mind gets calm as well as you focus on your breathing for as long as needed.
Stress Relieving Apps: Happify is an amazing app that helps you identify what’s causing you stress and works towards making your happier and more stress free. Of course there’s a lot more to it than that, but that’s just a brief overview of what I talk about in my post on relieving stress.
Good sleep is essential for our body, which I think makes it one of the most important health and beauty tips. Without it, our health declines and we end up gaining weight. So getting a full eight hours is a must, and creating the right routines will help us get there.
What to Eat and Drink for Better sleep: Both chrysanthemum tea (you can get it here) and cherries have insomnia fighting attributes. The tea helps to relax and calm you and send you off to sleep, while cherries are one of the few food sources of melatonin (which is the sleep hormone in your brain). Having both of these before bed is a great way to have a full eight hours sleep.
5-HTP: If you don’t want to take sleep meds and want a natural remedy to send you off to sleep, then 5-HTP is for you. This helps your brain to start producing serotonin (the other sleep hormone), until it starts producing it on its own naturally. There are no effects of going off of it, which makes it a desirable choice for sleep supplements.
The 4-7-8: This breathing technique had me falling asleep within minutes. What you do is this: breath in for 4 second, hold your breath for 7, and exhale for 8. This calms your mind and heart as you focus on counting and the high amount of oxygen makes you sleepy.
Tea is a great way to help and relieve so many situations. Whether emotional or physical, they all have their benefits. So find one from the list above that works for your needs and drink up!
I love detox drinks, but I especially loves ones that help me lose weight. All three of these drinks done by Skinny Ms. are awesome drinks to help speed up your metabolism. I couldn’t not include them as one of the many health and beauty tips!
Lemon-Ginger Flat Belly Drink: This drink is great to have first thing in the morning since warm water helps your digestion. And the lemons have a ton of vitamins and cleanses your liver which is great for weight loss. And then the ginger detoxes your body and kick starts your metabolism.

Blueberry-Carrot Smoothie Flat Belly Drink: These two are great sources of antioxidants which help you lose weight. Just make sure you use low fat milk or yogurt to keep the calories down.
Instructions: Blend 1 cup of low-fat milk or yogurt, 1/2 cup frozen (or fresh) blueberries, 1 small carrot, and 2 tbps. of oats. You can add 1 tsp. of honey if desired. Then blend and and enjoy!
Green Tea with Ginger Flat Belly Drink: Green tea is an awesome metabolism boosting drink that will help you lose weight fast. And combining the ginger just makes it that much better!.
Instructions: Combine 1 cup of water and grated ginger root (about a 1-inch piece) in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add a green tea bag and let it steep for 3 minutes. Then you can discard the teabag and drink while warm. And if you want to sweeten it, add a teaspoon of honey. Whether you drink it warm or cold, it doesn’t matter, just enjoy!
